CUT DEAD AIR

Lose the pauses, keep the take

A talking-head recording is mostly waiting: the breath before the line, the retake, the three seconds of reading your own notes. Null finds those gaps and cuts them, and leaves every cut on the timeline so you can put one back.

ONE PASS, THEN A READ

The boring part, done first

Cutting silence by hand is the work nobody should still be doing. It is also the work you have to check, so Null does it where you can see it.

1. Add the recording

Any length, MP4, MOV, or WebM, straight from your computer. Webcam takes, screen recordings, interviews, a podcast video — anything with speech and gaps between it.

2. Set the two numbers, then cut

Choose how long a pause has to be before it counts — the default is 0.45 seconds — and how much to keep on each side of the speech, so a cut never clips the start of a word. Then press Cut the silences. The silent ranges are removed and the timeline closes up.

3. Check the joins

Watch the cuts, not the whole file. A pause before a punchline or after a question is often the point, so slide that in-point back and keep it. Every edit is undoable.

4. Caption, trim, and ship

Add word-timed captions, a punch-in zoom, or a title, then export. Exports cost 15 credits per minute at 1080p and 30 at 4K, rounded up. Cuts and previews cost nothing.

WHY IT STAYS EDITABLE

A cut you can argue with

Tools that remove silence usually hand back a finished file. Null hands back a timeline: the same splits, trims, and ripples you would have made yourself, with the undo history intact. If the pass was too aggressive on one line, you fix that one line.

You can also run it from the AI app you already use. Null MCP gives Claude, Codex, and Cursor the same cut tools, so "tighten the first two minutes" is a request you can type.

Questions about auto-cut

Does it speed up the gaps or remove them?

It removes them. The silent stretch is cut out and the timeline closes up, so the pacing of your speech is untouched — no sped-up audio, no pitch shift.

What if it cuts a pause I wanted?

Drag the cut back. Each gap is a normal edit on the timeline with its own in and out points, and the whole pass can be undone in one step.

Does it cut filler words like "um"?

No. Auto-cut targets silence, so an audible filler word survives the pass. Cut those yourself on the timeline, where the captions show you where each word sits.

Does this cost credits?

No. Credits are for exports only: 15 per minute at 1080p, 30 per minute at 4K, rounded up. Cutting, captioning, and previewing are free on every plan.

Which plan do I need?

Any of them. Auto-cut silences and dead air is in Starter at $14 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly. Creator and Studio add 4K export, the motion graphics library, and saved brand kits.
